The Chinese Government Scholarship supports eligible international students studying at selected Chinese universities.

Depending on the specific program, the scholarship may cover:

  • University accommodation or accommodation subsidy

  • Monthly living allowance

  • Comprehensive medical insurance

A full scholarship typically covers tuition, accommodation or an accommodation subsidy, a living allowance, and medical insurance. Benefits are subject to the program and university announcement for that year. See Tsinghua University Scholarship Details.

University Scholarships

Many Chinese universities offer scholarships or tuition waivers for outstanding international applicants. These vary by institution and program and may be awarded at different stages of admission. Common types:

  • Full tuition waiver: covers tuition for the entire program.

  • Partial tuition waiver: covers a portion of tuition (commonly 25%, 50%, or 75%).

  • First-year scholarship: applies only to the first year’s tuition or is a one-time award.

  • Academic-performance renewal scholarships: renewed based on GPA or class ranking.

  • Accommodation subsidy: reduced-cost or free on-campus housing.

  • Living allowance (stipend): monthly stipend provided by some programs.

Application notes:

  • Some scholarships are granted automatically with admission; others require a separate application.

  • Required supporting documents may include recommendation letters, transcripts, research proposal, and award certificates.

  • Deadlines and eligibility differ by university, faculty, degree level (undergraduate/master’s/PhD), and sometimes by nationality.
